Real-ESRGAN | Upscale and Enhance Images Online
Use Real-ESRGAN to upscale photos online, recover detail from smaller files, and optionally improve faces for cleaner portrait and ecommerce visuals.
About this model
Real-ESRGAN is a lightweight image upscaler for improving an existing picture when you need more visible detail, cleaner edges, higher usable resolution, and optional face enhancement for portrait-heavy images.
When is this model useful?
Real-ESRGAN is the right choice when the image already exists, but the file looks too soft, too small, or not clean enough for the way you want to use it. It is built for enhancement and enlargement, not for generating a brand new scene from text.
Best fit tasks
- Upscaling product photos, ecommerce images, banners, social creatives, marketplace visuals, screenshots, and older digital assets when the original file is too small.
- Improving AI-generated or edited images before placing them into landing pages, ads, decks, print mockups, or other more polished deliverables.
- Enhancing portraits, profile pictures, and team photos when you want optional face cleanup in addition to general upscaling.
- Recovering a cleaner-looking result from compressed, slightly blurry, or lower-resolution source images without opening a full image editor.
Main advantages
- The workflow is simple: upload one image, choose the scale amount, and optionally enable face enhancement for portraits.
- It helps increase usable resolution while keeping the original subject, framing, and overall composition close to the source image.
- Optional GFPGAN face enhancement can improve facial clarity when portraits or people are important in the final output.
- It is fast and approachable for non-technical users because the page exposes only a few practical settings.
Limitations to know
- This model enhances an existing image. It does not generate a new scene, replace objects, rewrite the composition, or remove the background.
- Upscaling can improve clarity, but it cannot fully recreate details that are completely missing in a very tiny, heavily blurred, or badly compressed file.
- If the source already contains wrong text, visible artifacts, or distorted hands and faces, those issues can remain visible after enlargement.
- The provider currently recommends source images up to 1440p. Very large inputs may need to be resized first for the safest workflow.
- Face enhancement is helpful for portraits, but it is not always desirable for illustrations, products, logos, or non-human subjects.
How to use this model
The practical workflow is straightforward: start with the cleanest source image you have, choose how much larger the result should become, and enable face enhancement only when a human face is actually important in the image.
Simple workflow
- Upload one image that you want to improve. In AISVIT, this model works with an existing file, so you do not need a text prompt.
- Choose Scale. In simple terms, this controls how much larger the output should be than the original image. Values around 2 are a safe starting point, while higher values are better only when you truly need a much larger file.
- Turn on Face enhance if the picture includes a person and facial clarity matters. This adds an extra portrait-focused cleanup step during processing.
- Leave Face enhance off for products, interfaces, logos, text-heavy graphics, and most non-portrait visuals so the model focuses on general upscaling only.
- Run the model and review the result at full size. Check text, edges, skin, hair, packaging labels, and small textures before publishing or printing.
Supported inputs
- Required: one input image.
- In the AISVIT upload flow, JPG, PNG, and WEBP are the safest file types to use.
- The provider currently recommends source images up to 1440p resolution.
- In AISVIT, this is not a prompt-based workflow, so there is no text prompt, no reference mixing, and no multi-image editing mode for this model.
What you get
- One enhanced and upscaled image per run.
- A result sized according to the selected Scale value.
- Optional portrait cleanup when Face enhance is enabled.
- A ready-to-download enhanced image file returned by the provider.
